Lock away your yarns and needles! Last Saturday (18.5.2013) some nutty knitters covered the trees lining our beautiful river Aura with knitting, crocheting and quilting. These were the highlights:

Angry birds and gluttonous piggies! I don’t know why, but those pigs just make me laugh. Commercial, yes, but there’s just something about knowing that somebody probably spent hours knitting a ball-shaped green piggy. Kind of like those needlepoint swearword wall hangings. The message is underlined by the labour-intensiveness.

This was the best concept and execution:

Monster totem! There were also crocheted “eyeballs” hanging from the branches. Genius.

These crocheted mega-flowers were also cool:

And this creative gem caught my eye also:

A finnish Jopo bike with a heavy metal twist. Apparently, I’m easily amused.

I’m doing my thesis on footwear sustainability, and am currently researching existing sustainable footwear brands and concepts. 

Oat has to be one of my favourites. They’re apparently completely biodegradeable! How cool is that! Plus they’re cute. I want these high-tops.

At this time of year the roads alternate between slush and ice, and when it freezes over the patterns of the people that have passed are preserved. A light snowfall brings out the contrast, making it look like textile prints ready to go.

The winter in Finland makes everything black and white and grey. When spring comes, I feel like Dorothy entering the land of Oz. But that’ll be another three months from now.
